  • How do I sign up for propane service?

Please call us at your convenience. At that time, we'll set up your account, confirm your tank size and location, schedule your first safety check (free!) and your first delivery (or tank installation), and review your preferred billing/payment method. Reach out today to learn more about signing up for our propane service.
  • How much does it cost?

When you call in the first time, please discuss with our CSR what you need propane for, and then we can quote you current pricing. For example: Do you need a propane delivery to your home? Do you need a tank? Do you need a propane delivery to your business? Would you like to be on our automatic delivery ("keep full") program? Would you like budget billing? Do you need a portable tank filled?
  • What size propane tank will I need?

The size depends on how many propane appliances you have (home heating, hot water, cooking, generator, etc.), your home's size, and usage patterns. We'll help you choose an appropriate tank size for your location.
  • Who owns the tank - me or the propane company?

Typically, the propane provider owns the tank and is responsible for its maintenance, inspection, and regulatory compliance—but we'll clarify at sign-up for your specific location.
  • How do I know when my propane tank is getting low?

Most tanks have a fuel gauge. We also can supply the equipment to monitor usage and can offer automatic refill delivery so you don't have to track it closely. It's smart to keep the tank at least 20% to 30% full to avoid cold-weather issues. Call Automatic Gas Company today to learn more about your propane fuel level monitoring options.
  • What is the delivery schedule and how does automatic delivery work?

We offer automatic delivery based on your usage, tank size, and local climate trends. You may also call when you need a refill on your propane.
  • What happens if I run out of propane?

If you ever run out of propane, call us immediately, and we can dispatch a truck to refill your tank, but we will need to schedule time on a weekday when you are home because we are required by law to perform a gas check on your system if you run out. Also, running out of gas may cause air to enter your system or disrupt your appliance operation—especially important during winter in this region.
  • What safety or regulatory standards apply here in Texas?

The Railroad Commission of Texas regulates the storage, transportation, and use of LP-gas (propane) throughout the state. This agency establishes safety rules and licensing requirements that apply to propane systems used by homeowners and businesses.

For example, propane tank installations must be in compliance with specific safety standards, including minimum distance requirements from buildings, property lines, and ignition sources.

In addition, individuals or companies performing certain propane-related activities may be required to hold proper licensing through the state. A few cities or counties may have rules regarding propane in addition to RRC regulations, and these would also have to be addressed.

  • How is pricing determined and what payment options do I have?

Pricing is typically based on market propane rates plus any service or regulatory compliance fees. We'll explain your rate and any budget or fixed-price options. We accept payments by check, online, credit or debit card, or other methods suitable for your area. Reach out to Automatic Gas Company today to learn more about your propane options!
  • Which appliances can run on propane and is it suitable for this region?

Propane has been used to heat Texas homes for over 80 years. You can use it for hot water, cooking, clothes drying, fireplaces, furnaces, grilling, space heaters, pool heaters, and even standby generators. We'll check your appliance configuration and needs for your home.
